| We use videography as
a vehicle for integrating technology into our curriculum.
Our students are introduced to videography in the
first grade through the Basic Videography class.
In this class, the students are familiarized with
the technical terminology for the videography equipment.
They are also given instruction in the fundamentals
of in-front-of and behind-the-camera operations.
By third grade our students are prepar ed to enroll
in the Advanced Videography class where they learn
more advanced techniques such as research, preparation
for interviews, storyboards, camera shots, on-site
and off-site set-up and conducting interviews. Through
a collaborative effort with The People's Channel
in Chapel Hill, the students are able to gain experience
producing a show in an actual studio setting. The
videography classes are taught by Ted Mangum who
has over twenty-five years of experience in the
field of videography. He is assisted by one of his
former students, videographer Nicole Brown. The
Advanced Videography students, under the direction
and supervision of Bro. Mangum and Sis. Brown, produce
an award-winning weekly television program, "Omuteko
TV," which airs at 5:30 pm on Tuesdays on Cable
8 in Durham, and on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays
on the People's Channel in Chapel Hill and Orange
County. In addition to providing an invaluable learning
experience for our students, "Omuteko TV" provides
us with an opportunity to serve our community by
airing informative programming that reflects the
interests and concerns of local residents. |
